Christ

Christ has usually been described in a spiritual literature either as a divine being or highly spiritualized state. There are some different notions about Christ among spiritual thinkers, although they also often resemble each other.

Concepts which have been regarded as very closely related or synonymous by some spiritual thinkers: Illumination, Awakening, Satori, Enlightenment, Self Realization, Christ Consciousness, Cosmic Consciousness, Superconscious

One view about Christ is wisdom or understanding, which is not opinion, error, belief or Knowledge as man knows or thinks he knows. According to this view, Jesus was not Christ but became Christ when He gave up earthly (belief or) Knowledge for wisdom or science as Quimby called it. [See Mind of the Christ, Christ Consciousness]

Quimby

The true Christ comes in this way. He takes no thought what he will say but it comes to him when he sits down by the sick and the answer corresponds with the feelings. For instance, if you feel a pain you have a wisdom of what the substance or belief is that makes it. So your Science or Christ will analyze the substance and explain it to the patient in language so plain that he will understand it. And as he understands, he embraces your wisdom and that lights up the error or belief till the belief is lost in wisdom and the shadow is gone. And you rejoice in the Christ or Truth that sets you free. This is the true Christ. So the word Christ is the name of that wisdom that can feel a sensation of another, analyze it so as to explain the error and destroy the belief so that the patient is set free from his belief. Christ is light. So is science and to be equal with Jesus is to do as he did. If you, by any power not understood, should do miracles or anything far beyond Jesus and do not know how you do it, then you would be a Christ, but an ignorant one. [Phineas Parkhurst Quimby]

Christ is that unseen principle in man, of which he is conscious but which he has never considered as intelligence. It is God in us, and when man arrives at that state that he can recognize an intelligence that transcends belief, then death is swallowed up in wisdom. All will acknowledge that every scientific discovery might have been known before, that is, the truth existed before we knew it. We, in like manner, have an existence as active in itself as man in his opinions, but both cannot be seen at the same time for as one dies the other rises.” [Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, Jesus, His Belief or Wisdom]

Edgar Cayce

"Jesus is the man - the activity, the mind, the relationships that He bore to others. Yea, He was mindful of friends, He was sociable, He was loving, He was kind, He was gentle. He grew faint, He grew weak - and yet gained that strength that He has promised, in becoming the Christ, by fulfilling and overcoming the world (and its beliefs)! Ye are made strong - in body, in mind, in soul and purpose - by that power in Christ. The power, then, is in the Christ. The pattern is in Jesus." [Cayce (2533-7)]

"And then as He hung upon the Cross, He called to those that He loved and remembered not only their spiritual purposes but their material lives. For He indeed in suffering the death on the Cross became the whole, the entire way; THE way, THE life, THE understanding, that we who believe on He may, too, have the everlasting life." [Cayce (5749-6)]

21. Then indeed should each of you at this Glad Season make the hearts of others Merry by thine own happiness in the birth, the life, the death of thy Jesus, thy Christ!

22. Know this had no beginning in the 1900 years ago, but again and Again and AGAIN! And it may be today, He may be born into thy consciousness; not as a physical birth - but each moment that a physical birth is experienced in the earth is an OPPORTUNITY for the Christ-entrance again!

23. Then what are ye doing about it in thy daily life, thy daily conversation? For not by might nor in power, but in the still small voice that speaks within, ye may know as He hath given so oft - "Peace - it is I! Be not afraid, it is I," thy Savior, thy Christ; yea, THYSELF meeting that BABE in thine own inner self that may grow even as He to be a channel of blessings to others!

24. For as ye do it unto others ye do it unto Him.

25. May the Peace, the Joy of His Consciousness, His Presence, His Joy be thine this day; yea, all thy days in the earth! For He is nigh unto thee, He is in thy midst!

26. Praise ye the Lord that gave, then, His Son; that ye might know Him!

27. We are through. [Cayce (281-59)]

". . the church is within yourself and not in any pope nor preacher, nor in any building but in self! For thy body is indeed the temple of the living God, and the Christ becomes a personal companion in mind and in body; dependent upon the personality and individuality of the entity as it makes practical application of the tenets and truths that are expressed." [Cayce (5125-1)]

"The ways of the Lord are only hard to those who have set themselves in ideas (opinions and beliefs). Let the IDEAL of the Christ guide thee. For He hath given His promise, "Take my yoke upon you, and LEARN of me." In THIS Knowledge of Him, thy Savior, as thy companion, the way becomes easy, the burden becomes light. For as He hath given, take not Thought or fret thyself not concerning tomorrow, looking not back but ever upward, onward, into the face, into the love of the Christ. And ye will find His presence giving thee strength for the daily conditions, the daily disturbances. And He will keep thee as in the hollow of His hand. For as He hath given, He hath given His angels charge concerning thee, but the Christ has given, "I - even I - will be WITH thee." Then trust in Him, for this is indeed Knowledge (or wisdom)." [Cayce (262-98)]

"Then as ye have held, as ye have applied that ye have gained, so does the ability come to be of that help, that aid to those who are stumbling - some blindly, some gropingly, some discouraged, some overanxious, some overzealous of their own peculiar twist or turn; yet all seeking - seeking the light. But He is the light, as ye have seen in thine experience - yea in thine experiences through the earth ye, too, have seen the light and lost thy way. And even as He put on flesh that He, too, might know the ways of the flesh, of the desires, of the urges that have wrought in the experiences of men that blindness of self-glory, self-indulgence or self-aggrandizement that has led many astray, even with the forces of Divine at times working through them. For the Spirit is willing, the flesh is weak. And the strength, the influence, the force and power, is by that trust, that faith in Him . . ." [Cayce (1301-1)]

. . . "I will not leave thee comfortless, but will come and enjoin thee in thy daily activities, thy daily service." This is the promise to every soul. If ye would make that promise thine own, then seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto thee. Let there be definite periods when ye look within self, cleansing the mind, the body, in such ways and manners and measures that seemeth that as ye would offer as thine offering unto the holy experiences that may be thine. For, he that expects nothing shall not be disappointed, but he that expects much - if he lives and uses that in hand day by day - shall be full to running over. For the love of the Father constraineth thee to keep thine counsel with those thou meetest day by day that thou mayest aid. Thus may the soul find expression. Thus may the life, the experience, that portion of life thou hast in this present experience become more and more beautiful, and the sunshine of thy love into the hearts and souls of those that are wondering, that are troubled because they find not the spirit of truth and life in their own lives, wilt come into those experiences of calling thee blessed in the name of the Father." [Cayce (Reading 557-3)]

Helena P. Blavatsky

"Christ - the true esoteric SAVIOR - is no man, but the DIVINE PRINCIPLE in every human being. He who strives to resurrect the Spirit crucified in him by his own terrestrial passions, and buried deep in the 'sepulchre' of his sinful flesh; he who has the strength to roll back the stone of matter from the door of his own inner sanctuary, he has the risen Christ in him. The 'Son of Man' is no child of the bond-woman - flesh, but verily of the free-woman - Spirit, the child of man's own deeds, and the fruit of his own spiritual labour." [Blavatsky, Collected Writings, 8:173]

Rudolf Steiner

"Just as a human being has a physical body, etheric body and Astral body, so also the Earth has its physical body, etheric body, and Astral body. With our physical bodies we are all enveloped not only by the air but also by the etheric and Astral bodies of the Earth. An observer from a distant planet with clairvoyant vision would be able to see these etheric and Astral bodies. These etheric and Astral bodies of the Earth had a certain color and a certain movement until the appearance of Jesus Christ. Then the Earth changed and took on new colors and new movement. This event is so profound and far-reaching for our Earth and humanity's evolution that the entire spiritual content of our Earth was changed.

"We must not think that this took place all at once with the birth, suffering and death of Christ. It has been prepared through centuries in the spiritual substance of our planet and is not even today completed. With such an eye we could see how the Earth at that time received a new spiritual impulse, how this impulse is still "condensing" and being consolidated. It will be a long time before the Earth has gathered in all the fruits that were called forth back then by the appearance of Jesus Christ". [Rudolf Steiner, The Christian Mysteries]

"The Christ spirit only united with the three bodies (of Jesus) gradually in a process that took three years. Initially the connection was only a loose one. The three bodies were only truly filled with the christ spirit at a time when death was not far off. Compared to all the pain and suffering Jesus of Nazareth experienced in his three stages of development, the suffering the Christ went through now was infinitely greater. Over a period of three years the Christ spirit slowly found a way of entering into the three human bodies. It was continual pain, but pain that was transformed into love and love and love.

"If we investigate the way Christ Jesus lived among his close followers during the three years, we find it was different from year to year. In the first year Christ was only loosely connected with the body of Jesus of Nazareth. At any moment the physical body might be in one place and the Christ spirit would be somewhere else. When the other gospels speak of the Lord appearing to the disciples in some place or other, the physical body would be somewhere else, and the Christ spirit would move around the country....

"That was at the beginning. As time went on the Christ spirit united more and more closely with the body of Jesus of Nazareth. Thus it would happen, later on, that when the Christ was among his closest disciples, these would be so strongly connected to him in heart and mind that he was not separate from them as it were. The more he entered into his body, the more did he come to live in the inmost being of his disciples. Going about in their midst he would speak now through one of them and now through another, for he had become so much a part of them that it would not always be Christ Jesus who uttered the words but sometimes one of his disciples. As Christ went about with his disciples in this way he became increasingly more dangerous in the eyes of his enemies who would say "How can we lay hands on him? We can't arrest the whole company. If we take one who is speaking we shall never know if he is the one or not." They never knew if the one they saw before them was the one they wanted.....

"There was something very special about this company and because of this it was necessary to have a betrayal. The matter was not as it usually represented. The kiss would be meaningless - unless the situation was such that someone who was in a position to know had to show those who did not know which was the right man.

"The Christ spirit only united completely with the bodies of Jesus of Nazareth when great suffering had to be faced, and the Mystery of Golgotha was beginning. One of the facts emerging when the seer's eye is directed to those events in the Akashic record is that at the time when the Christ hung on the cross, a darkness fell on the Earth in the region around Golgotha that was like an eclipse of the Sun. Seen with a seer's eye, life on Earth during an eclipse is very different from the usual. While this change happened on Earth, also in the physical sense, the Christ spirit entered into the living Earth aura. Through the death of Christ Jesus, the Earth received the Christ impulse.

"The greatest event that ever happened on Earth can only be described in such simple, halting words. When the body of Jesus was taken from the cross and laid in a tomb, another natural event occured, rather like something entering the moral life of a person. The seer's eye can observe a whirlwind arising and a fissure opening in the ground. This received the body of Jesus, and the burial cloths were whirled away from the corpse. [see Revelation]

"These two events - the darkening of the Earth and the earthquake accompanied by a whirlwind - show that natural events occured at the same time as the spiritual events at that time in Earth evolution. Normaly this happens only in living creatures, for instance when thinking and an voluntary decision precede a movement of a hand. Only at one special moment did a spiritual and two physical events come together.

"Our studies have gradually shown what must come alive in our souls so that we may truly have a part in the ongoing evolution of humanity. The meaning and purpose of human evolution on Earth is that human souls should become more and more conscious of their mission.

"The Christ has come. His impulse has been a real influence. For a long time it was active more at an unconscious level. Then he had to be able to work through what had so far been understood. He had an influence because of what he was, not because of what people understood. It will however, become more and more necessary for people to understand the Christ, who entered into the bodies of Jesus of Nazareth and through them into the Earth's aura and therefore the living evolution of humanity." [Rudolf Steiner, The Fifth Gospel, Dec. 1913]

from A Dialogue on Awakening
"See yourself with the vision of the Christ and concurrently recognize that it is your vision." [Dialogue on Awakening, pg 104]

"It would be appropriate for me to give you a different understanding as to what happens when one asks for guidance. As we have discussed before, there is the Mind which expresses God which I have called the Christ. Within this Mind of the Christ, resides the truth of God. That truth is, in its essence, entirely whole. Its wholeness is expressed by each unique and individual expression which resides in it. But each expression knowing itself will only express this truth in a slightly different fashion. This expression of truth, in an infinite number of ways, is what is called the movement of Creation." [Dialogue on Awakening, pg 117] [see Christ Consciousness]

"I would ask you to look upon each other and recognize that what you see regardless of what your senses may tell you, is the light of Christ. Be aware, as you allow your gaze to settle upon one another, that it is the same light you recognize as being me. I encourage you to do this to bring about a better understanding that any time you look upon one another, you do indeed look upon me as well. I would encourage your understanding that it is quite impossible for this not to be so. I will tell you this: there is nothing you can do at this or any other moment to enhance your understanding of your Self or to enhance the validity of your own Divinity to any greater depth than to look upon one another and truly recognize what is there.

"Resist no Thought or feeling that comes to you. Resistance is based upon some past judgement you have made that something could be harmful or fearsome. So to resist means you still hold the belief that this fear is real and justifiable and worth retaining. This also means that you will continue to hold the blocks these fears have built in your mind and manifest them in your body.

"These thoughts have come to offer an opportunity to choose again - an exchange program of sorts in which continued bondage is let go for freedom. Simply access each one as it appears as to its source. Those from God will speak only of Love, for as clearly stated in the Course, "God is but Love, and therefore, so are you." All other thoughts would hide this truth. Lovingly acknowledge they are no longer needed and choose again for freedom." Jesus in [Dialogue on Awakening, page 231]

"How blind we have all been!" writes the revered Dr. Furness, D. D., of Philadelphia, "what a palpable error it is to regard the extraordinary works that Christ wrought as suspensions of the laws of nature. They are directly the reverse; they are illustrations of the power of mind over matter, of the spirit over the flesh. For this representation of the so-called miracles, we have the express authority of Jesus Himself. Although He ascribed his extraordinary work directly to God, in the same breath He declared with equal explicitness that they were wrought, not by any preternatural power which He alone possessed, but by faith; thus basing his authority, as a messenger of God, not upon any departure from the laws of nature, but upon the power of the very highest law of nature." [What Electricity Is]

Q: Who is Christ, and what special happened when [Jesus the] Christ died in Golgotha? Steiner explains this as difficult to answer. He went to the Akasha.

FROM JESUS

"I would like to clarify some information today. It is about the station of The Christ. The Christ is a state of enlightenment attained in which the energy is so pure that intention is manifest immediately and is in synchrony with Divine Will. This state is above and beyond the mental state of asking "what do I need to do. . . .?" The Christ state is one of simultaneous recognition and action.

"Few people attain this state, as it is so difficult to achieve the "escape velocity" required to overcome the "human condition" and act from a more elevated state. Along with this state comes responsibility. Each soul comes in with a promise. That promise is unwrapped or not, according to how closely the person follows the Divine Path prescribed to arrive at the soul's ultimate destination - enlightenment. Enlightenment equates with attaining spiritual Oneness with God and All with one's realization that all are One.

"So, I, Jesus, was born with a promise to take the ultimate sacrifice of my life to energetically and spiritually absolve all who came after of the need to sacrifice in order to join in Oneness with God and All. However, the focus is not upon my death so much as upon the Resurrection. This is the Almighty lesson: That no matter how severe the suffering and sacrifice, you shall be born again in Spirit. This is your birthright resulting from my life, death and resurrection. More specifically, your birthright results from my fulfilling my promise so you may much more easily fulfill yours.

"Energetically, what happened with my death and resurrection to the Earth is noteworthy. The etheric energy of the Earth shifted, which affected the people and their fields. The effect is that the need to sacrifice for Divine blessing was satisfied universally.

"The state of Christedness; the Christ Consciousness, is one that may be, and has been attained by others. However, they do not hold the same task or promise as I, so their Christedness would express differently.

"A word to the reader. The human condition is frequently visited by pre-judged ideas that the ego is invested in proving or defending. This is why wars are fought and turmoil is perpetuated.

"The trick to achieving your enlightenment and staying on your path is to cast off the preconceived ideas that you hold. They may seem sacred, but look at them very closely and detach from everything that is less than Love. You will know these by the feeling that you need to be right or have your own way. The more you feel charged about these controversies, the more you need to detach from them and just Love. Let others follow their paths, and you follow yours. In this way each can much more easily do their part in achieving Oneness.

"In this process, I stand ready to assist you whenever requested. All you need to do is ask! (Hint: it's not as easy as it sounds to not get sucked into daily life. So ask "I await assisting you!" [message via Dawn Stranges]
